Regardless of whether or not Tom Brady is guilty of deflating footballs, Brady should still be suspended for being a knob

Ever since the DeflateGate scandal broke out in January, we’ve had months of debates and discussions and and scientific studies from Bill Nye and blistering statements from both the NFL and from the New England Patriots. It’s been nothing but six months of chaos for the NFL.

It shows no sign of stopping soon, as the NFLPA will likely sue on behalf of Brady over the four game suspension, and the Patriots owner Robert Kraft doesn’t appear to end his war of words with Roger Goodell any time soon. The same can be said of the fans who want this ordeal over with as well.

Who knows what led Goodell to suspend Brady in the first place – Maybe it was to get back at his critics for not suspending players enough, given the Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson fiascos last year. Or the critics who thought the Pats got off easy after SpyGate in 2007. Or maybe Goodell really did have a grudge against Brady for one reason or another. Or maybe he’s getting urged on by some owners from the other teams in the NFL.

But regardless of what Tom Brady actually did before and after the AFC Championship, one thing has remained very clear – Tom Brady has acted like a knob. He destroyed his cell phone before the meeting with Ted Wells, destroying any evidence that might clear or convict Brady of his involvement in the scandal. His Interview with Bob Costas dodged any questions of any wrongdoing and he never really directly answered any questions to him, or even gave an outright denial at the time. I even remember Costas saying on the Super Bowl pregame coverage that he wasn’t too convinced that Brady was telling the whole truth on the scandal to begin with.

The whole timing seemed to be off as well. Compare that to coach Bill Belichick, who on January 22, issued a press statement that the team followed “every rule to the letter.” Robert Kraft, the owner, followed that up not too long after him and also defended every member of his team. Their responses has been swift and straightforward. Tom Brady’s responses? Not so much.

At this point, it’s hard to judge whether or not what his true intentions were, falling short of a confession from someone from the team. Judging from the war of words between the NFL and the Patriots, it’s going to become even harder.
